Current Position: Sponser of Gamma Kappa, Assistant Director of Bands at Northern Arizona University

Dr. Carson Vermillion is currently the Assistant Professor and the Associate Director of Bands, at Northern Arizona University.  His duties include assisting with the direction of NAU's comprehensive wind studies program, including the NAU Lumberjack Marching Band, the NAU Wind Symphony, the Symphonic Band, Collegiate Band, and various pep bands.  In addition, he is a valuable addition to our music education faculty.  Dr. Vermillion recently completed the Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in conducting at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi where he studied with Dr. Thomas V. Fraschillo.  He previously studied with Dr. William A. Gora, Dr. Jay C. Jackson, and Dr. Elmer White at Appalachian State University, in Boone, NC.  Before joining the NAU faculty, Dr. Vermillion served as Director of Bands at Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit, Mississippi.  Originally from Lenoir, NC, Dr. Vermillion enjoyed a successful career as a middle school and high school band director for several years.  Under his direction, ensembles consistently received consistent praise at state concert and marching festivals.  Vermillion's other professional affiliations include the Arizona Music Educators Association, Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Kappa Lambda, Kappa Delta Pi, National Band Association, College Band Directors National Association, Music Educators National Conference, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.  Dr. Vermillion lives in Flagstaff with his wife Julie.  They have two sons, Grayson and Brady.
